Migrating to perl?

That sounds familiar.  It's also one of the main reasons that I made the 
switch to Python.  I've been very pleased with Python.  I haven't done 
much with it, but see

I've also heard very good things about Ruby.  You may want to evaluate 
both Python and Ruby if you're looking for an alternative to Perl but 
don't know any Python yet.

I've seen people post obvious trollbait.  Instead of starting a flamefest, 
instead of being ignored, a meaningful discussion resulted.  

Even when Tim Peters tells you that you don't know what you're talking 
about, he does it with a wink and a thorough explanation.
