RS232 support for DOS on 486?

Thank you for your replies.
In this case I am forced to use a DOS box, because it is a rugged version of a
handheld with the OS in the PROM, so there is no choice on the OS.
Nevertheless I would be grateful for some advice wether a Python version for a
486 exists (apparently python-dx), and if someone has experience whether the
RS232 can be poked from there.
This is for my personal convenience in order to avoid using a broken language
(BASIC) on broken OS.
