Hi Andrej
check out OpenEV
http://openev.sourceforge.net/
OpenEV is a library, and reference application for viewing and analysing
raster and vector geospatial data.
Objectives
OpenEV will:
Run on popular platforms (Linux, Windows, Solaris, IRIX).
Handle raster and vector data.
Support 2d and 3d display.
Gracefully handle very large (gigabyte) raster datasets.
Support multi-channel, and complex raster datasets.
Understand and interpret georeferencing information, and provide on-the-fly
reprojection of datasets.
Provide view manipulation functions (pan, zoom, rotate) at interactive frame
rates.
Provide a powerful image analysis tool.
Serve as a component in a variety of image analysis applications.
..please keep me posted of any GIS Python work you do.
good luck!
./.Jason

Hi,
I was looking for some freeware / open-source object-oriented GIS
(Geographic information system) of which I unfortunately found none. It
would be used for classifying high-resolution satellite imagery by using
also semantic information represented in meaningfull image objects and their
interrelations.
Is it possible to devise an object-oriented vector GIS database in Python
with a small programming effort or is this a mayor task? Has anybody used
Python in a similar context (I am aware of Python support for ArcWiev GIS
which unfortunately still operates upon non-object-oriented ArcInfo
databases)?
Thank you for your answers.
