Well... here's how Haskell does it:
[1 .. 4] --> [1,2,3,4]
[4,3 .. 0] --> [4,3,2,1,0]
[2,4 .. 10] --> [2,4,6,8,10]
[0.0,0.3 .. 1.0] --> [0.0,0.3,0.6,0.9]
It's hard to think of a better syntax for Python to use.
