This seems strange. What happens if you start a vanilla python session
and import the types module.
Python 2.1 (#1, Jul 20 2001, 22:26:10)
[GCC 2.95.4 20010319 (Debian prerelease)] on linux2
Type "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
>>> import types
>>> dir(types)
['BufferType', ... , 'ListType', ... , 'TupleType', ...]
And your loop is definitely very slow. It would be better to
fread(2000,'l') and create the two wanted arrays by slicing.
