Why so few Python jobs?

Its always been my impression that most of the jobs are determined by most
of the established code -- so many jobs are defined by their maintenance
component.

Even if the best language for a problem might be python they will hire a
perl programmer because its what they know and what they have to support.
Its a changeover that will happen or at least open up for python. Python's
ease of support will make every python victory a permanent one I'd much
rather maintain a python code base!
