Python "compiler" is too slow for processing large data files???

[localhost:~] wolfgang% time python -c "import comp"
8000
4.620u 0.470s 0:05.28 96.4% 0+0k 0+6io 0pf+0w
[localhost:~] wolfgang%
round about 5 seconds...
