Even if there weren't the mailing list, cancelling a post is not all
that effective.  Many servers don't honor cancels as a matter of policy,
and after the post has been out for a while, cancelling it won't do much
good, since even if it deletes the article on the news servers the
cancel propagates to, people will already have read it.
