Tkinter list boxes, selection emphasis, and the keyboard focus

It appears that "activate" does not work, and there are list server posts 
lamenting it out there.

Further, though there is an "itemconfigure" for Listbox, my Python 2.0 does 
not have it.

I am open to any suggestion for a workaround!
