Just a very quick note to inform that a set of installations have
been made available for the elj libraries. This marks the first beta
release of the elj library:

   http://elj.sourceforge.net/

This is just an advance notice of the release and more details will
follow. For the adventurous, you can find details here:

NB:

* ccl is our higher level GUI library:

  * http://elj.sourceforge.net/projects/gui/ccl/doc/tutorial/

* db provides interfaces to databases: FireBird, mysql, Postgres
  SleepyCat (ie Berkeley DB) ...

  * http://elj.sourceforge.net/projects/db/firebird/
  * http://elj.sourceforge.net/projects/db/mysql/
  * http://elj.sourceforge.net/projects/db/postgres/
  * http://elj.sourceforge.net/projects/db/sleepycat/

* tools includes, an editor, image editor, menu editor:

  * http://elj.sourceforge.net/projects/tools/eifed/
  * http://elj.sourceforge.net/projects/tools/imed/
  * http://elj.sourceforge.net/projects/tools/mened/

Some documentation effort needs to be applied to the web pages
starting from here:

   http://elj.sourceforge.net/

I am spending a lot of time on the firebird database interface, a
particular impressive server based database derived from the Borland
Interbase source release:

   http://elj.sourceforge.net/projects/db/firebird/
   http://firebird.sourceforge.net/

Hopefully, elj will soon have some further documentation and notes on the
beta release.

In the meantime, try a download and compile some of the examples or tools
using SmallEiffel (-0.74 beta 15) and lcc-win32.

Note work has started on developing a Linux-based implementation of ccl:

   http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/elj/elj/lib/gtk/eiffel/

If you have not had a look at elj, maybe now is a good time.

Regards .. Geoff
