I am trying to build the info docs (cvs Python-2.2 branch) from source
on a Linux machine with per-5.6.1[1].

I get the same error as reported in message
  <mailman.988836005.26823.python-list at python.org>
(2. May 2001)

,----
| I'm trying to build the docs in info format with 'make info' in the 'Doc'
| directory of the Python 2.1. I get the error:
|
| $ make info
| (cd info; make)
| make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/local/src/Python-2-1/Doc/info'
| ../tools/mkinfo ../html/api/api.html
| perl -I/usr/local/src/Python-2-1/Doc/tools /usr/local/src/Python-2-1/Doc/tools/html2texi.pl /usr/local/src/Python-2-1/Doc/html/api/api.html
| /usr/local/lib/site_perl/HTML/Element.pm:2091: function main::collect_if_text expected 3 arguments, got 5: Front Matter 1 1 HTML::Element=HASH(0x8268db0) 0
| make[1]: *** [python-api.info] Error 255
| make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/local/src/Python-2-1/Doc/info'
| make: *** [info] Error 2
`----

I realized the following in the README
,----
| Note that info support is currently being revised using new conversion
| tools by Michael Ernst <mernst at cs.washington.edu>.
`----
but since I cannot find a followup or a posted solution to the
bug-report I am wondering whether this is an open issue or what the
solution to this is? Is this still a process in transition? How are
the info-docs for download prepared?

Thank you for your help in advance.

Greetings,
Jochen

Footnotes:
[1] I now I can download them, but I want to use the toolchain for
     our own Python module and as such want to be able to generate the
     files myself.
