Why aren't colons optional?

Same here. I use python-mode with emacs and so find my eyes looking at
the following line and wondering why it's not indented (which
python-mode will automatically do for you when it sees a colon).  My
brain catches up and realizes it missed a colon.

For the record, although they're not strictly required, I think that the
colons should be there.  They set things off strongly and that's very
valuable.
