Extending distutils?

Hello.

There is so far no chapter in the distutils manual about extending
distutils. However, I think I need to do that. When talking about
bdist_rpm it says "a better way to do this is probably to override the
standard bdist_rpm command with one that writes whatever else you want to
the .spec file" so I suppose I want to do that.

Does anybody have any hints on what I should do?
