Looking for Python tools for extracting information from PDF files.

Hi,

Can anyone suggest a (preferably Python) tool that can be used to extract
various information from PDF files? In particularly, I am interested in
extracting graphics from the PDF files.

I tried to search the web but all I found were tools to
create/modify/transform PDF files but I could not find any tools that can
extract graphics. Any hints are appreciated.
