That wouldn't work too well. It's really only vectors that need
compaction, and it's only Python lists that are mutable vectors.
Python's dict structure already has its own compaction algorithm, and
it's not compatible with GC.
(Dict compaction is based on the proportion of free entries; it's a
simple test, and there's no gain to be made by adding GC on top of it.)
Keep in mind that Python's (CPython's, to be precise; Jython does use GC
because that's what Java provides) base memory management semantics is
built on refcounting. GC only handles cycles.
