running under so I have to be blunt and demanding.

        WHAT OS? WHAT Python version?

        I just copied your source to a file under Mandrake 8.2, and ran it...

        Nothing wrong here, except that I don't know which graphic is 
"checked" vs "unchecked" -- the empty (white) hole, or the protruding 
(grey) mound
