installing mysqldb module in os x

Howdy.

I've installed mySQL v.3.23.52 on a system running mac os x 10.2, &
python 2.2.   

I'm now trying to install the python module for interfacing with
mysql (mysqldb), but on 'python setup.py build', I keep getting the
following error:

'can't locate file for: lmysqlclient-r'  ...  Before I go commenting
out lines in the setup file (I'm assuming that I actually DO have the
threadsafe libraries installed), I wanted to check if anyone else has
run into (and solved) this problem.
