At this point I'm really puzzled.

To double check for the java engine you are using you can you can use
something like
this in the test code you are running (Jython code):

import sys

print sys.registry.getProperty('java.version')
print
sys.registry.getProperty('java.vm.vendor','???'),sys.registry.getProperty('j
ava.vm.version','???')
