ftp problem on solaris machines with python

Hi all,

We've written an installation tool in Python2.2 that tars up
directories and ftp's the files over to the destination machines. This
works great from linux machines to linux machines. However, going from
solaris to solaris machines the process croaks if the tar files being
transferred are to big. Has anyone seen problems like this using
Python on solaris? And if so, any suggestions?
