In the days leading up to WWII pro-Nazi elements in the US were active in
leading an "anti-war" movement. Once the war began such activities were
deemed Sedition and actively prosecuted as such. By the Roosevelt
administration, with FDR quite involved in policy-making on the issue.
Practicality beats purity.
Brecht, the Hollywood 12th, was probably in fact in Hollywood as a conscious
agent of Stalin. Though history chooses to gloss the fact.
