Quite so.  So far I'm keeping three lists:  1. suggestions that there
was some independent affirmative support for (which includes the three
forms mentioned in the PEP), 2. suggestions that I didn't see any
affirmative support for, and 3. more general solutions that would only
degenerate to the effects of a conditional operator in a special case.
