You don't need to recompile Emacs in order to make python-mode
available to your entre site. See my other recent post. The Emacs
manual in the info pages (C-h i, see 'Emacs') has more of the kind of
info you're looking for. Please feel free to E-mail me for help and/or
handsholding.
