Your Python progress depends on learning, among other things,
these crucial facts:
A. Alex Martelli posts jewels in comp.lang.python.
What he writes, you should read.
B. One of the things Alex has taken to writing is
"Learn to use google. It's the most useful thing
    on the 'net."
C. I'll elaborate on what Alex means. Suppose you
    visit <URL: http://
    www.google.com/search?q=python+gui+comparison >;
the first entry you'll see there is <URL:
    http://sensei.co.il/python/ui.html >, an analytic
comparison of GUI bindings for Python.

A bit more work will turn up <URL: http://
    www.python.org/cgi-bin/moinmoin/GuiProgramming >
    and <URL: http://
    phaseit.net/claird/comp.windows.misc/toolkits.html >.
D. Google also solves your apparent difficulty with
newsgroup expirations. If your interest were only
in comp.lang.python, you'd want to know, for example,
    of <URL: http://www.python.org/search/hypermail/ >.
More generally, though, consider <URL: http://
    groups.google.com/groups?as_q=gui+comparison&as_ugroup=comp.lang.python >.
