Honestly both would work fine. Grouping them would save your script
time - but the mta will still expode the messages unless they are
going all the same domain.

Typical linux with postfix/sendmail should be able to handle 5-80
messages per second. 3000 won't take that long. Just make sure the
server has lots of disk space to queue them if the messages are large.
