Emacs has eaten my python tabs!!!

Good.  You didn't want them anyway, because, as you found, it makes
pasting other people's sources in a real pain.  From inside emacs,
assuming that your suorce code lines up properly, do M-x untabify.
Bingo.  Nothing but spaces.  Code will work fine now.

Laura (author of PEP 666, utterly uninterested in whether indenting
       is better done by tabs or spaces, but who knows how to fix this
       particular problem in emacs)
