This one reminds me of Phaethon (FAY uh thon), umlaut over the _e_ if
you want to be fancy. That's the son of Helios (the Sun god) who lost
control of the sun chariot and had to get zapped by Zeus in order to
save the world.

A minor planet, (3200) Phaethon, also bears the name. It was discovered
by infrared studies in 1983, and has an enormously eccentric orbit (with
an eccentricity of 0.89) that takes it well inside the orbit of Mercury
and almost out to the asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. Living up
to its namesake, there's more to the object than meets the eye: It's
thought to be an extinct or dormant comet and is probably the materials
source of the Geminids meteor shower (which peaks in mid-December).
