When I tried it (over a year ago), it failed because of some
library problem with my Linux distribution, and I was not
interested enough to go further.

I agree about the usefulness. Declaring it dead without even knowing
how (well) it works is not really fair I think. And with enough
interest it might get some new contributions, which is why
I mentioned it.
