python IDLE on win2000 doesn't startup

No, you don't have to install TkInter seperately.

Try opening a DOS shell and start it with python:
c:> python c:\python22\tools\idle\idle.py
Then the error message is kept in the shell, maybe that helps.

BTW: I recommend using IDLEfork (http://idlefork.sourceforge.net) in stead;
it works well on your configuration and it has a nice windows installer.
