The title of this thread reminds me of the city council in one
city that thought that their town was attracting homeless people
because it had too many public restrooms, so they appointed a
committee to investigate "Alternatives to Restrooms". There are
about as many alternatives to Python as there are alternatives
to restrooms.

This is not to say that everything else is worthless, just that
Python aims at a certain niche, and there isn't much else that
does exactly the same. It depends on what you want to do, but
when you want to do what Python does, the alternatives feel a
little like a tube running down your leg with a bottle in your
boot.
