I don't know, I kind of like the idea of a Daedelus car engine... It
would certainly help reduce tailgating. :^)

NB. A Daedelus type spaceship uses "fusion pulses" for power, some
    proposals use fusion bombs as a a method of generating the pulses.
    (One presumes a lot of shielding would be involved, as well as
    some sort of inertial damping system...)
