Have you tried the listings package on CTAN?  It is at
  http://www.ctan.org/tex-archive/macros/latex/contrib/supported/listings
I believe (although one of these days the ``supported'' part will go away).
There is a good deal of documentation and it does a nice job.  

(I think there may be a more recent version on the author's home page, so you
might check that.)
