All the cameras I've played with (Nikon, Sony, Olympus) just
are just USB mass storage devices with FAT filesystems on them.

Dunno.  You plug in the USB cable and it gets mounted as a disk
drive.  Knowing what drive name or mount-point to access gets a
bit tricky I suppose.
