Here's how to fix it:

vi Makefile
Lines 626 -> 628 should look like this:

else \
  $(INSTALL_SHARED) libpython$(VERSION)$(SO)$(DESTDIR)$(LIBDIR)/$(INSTSONAME); \
fi; \
