ftplib question: how to upload files?

It is definitely a lower level interface.  You need to do something like:

conn.storbinary('STOR %s' % (file_name),file_object)
to put in binary mode or:

conn.storbinary('STOR %s' % (file_name),file_object)
to put in ascii mode.
