One thing ; the format test isn't working:
(Mandrake 10, gcc 3.3.2)

$ make test

test test_format produced unexpected output:

I'm wondering where the u'1,000000' comes from... because when I type
on the interactive prompt:
Python 2.4a1 (#1, Jul  9 2004, 15:42:46)
