His survey of programming languages in "The Art of Unix Programming",
available at
http://www.catb.org/~esr/writings/taoup/html/languageschapter.html , is
interesting (and biased). Raymond evaluates C, C++, Shell, Perl, Tcl,
Python, Java, and Emacs Lisp.
