Though it may be overkill for your needs, you'll be interested in
Enthought's "Traits", I think; see, for example,
<http://python.fyxm.net/pycon/papers/traits.html>.  Facilitating such
presentation tasks (no doubt including editing) appears to be a major
driving force for Traits.
