Looking for a database. Sugestions?

So I opted actually to stick with MySQL since I got hooked up with a DB free 
and It's more of a standard.
 I'm looking at documentation, and wondering why not just use _mysql which 
is built in, versus the MySQLdb module? I don't get this ...
