unittest behaving oddly

assertEquals is a member function, inherited from unittest.TestCase, so
you must call it as self.assertEquals.  ForEx:

class IntegerArithmenticTestCase(unittest.TestCase):
     def testAdd(self):  ## test method names begin 'test*'
         self.assertEquals((1 + 2), 3)
