More newbie help required with dictionaries

You redefine the "machines" dictionary here. So it just contains one
entry. What you mean:

machines.update({ machinekey:[0,1,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0] })

Or:

machines[machinekey] = [0,1,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0]
