Am I right if I guess you did something like :

bruno at bibi ~ $ python
Python 2.4.3 (#1, Mar 12 2007, 23:32:01)
[GCC 3.3.4 20040623 (Gentoo Linux 3.3.4-r1, ssp-3.3.2-2, pie-8.7.6)] on 
Type "help", "copyright", "credits" or "license" for more information.
 >>> testmbox
   File "<stdin>", line 1 testmbox
SyntaxError: invalid syntax


FWIW, I ran the script (the correct way) on a copy of a mozilla mbox 
dir, and it seemed to work.
