Trying to solve a python/mechanize "error 500" http error

Looking up 500 error (here
http://www.w3.org/Protocols/rfc2616/rfc2616-sec10.html)
gives me:

10.5.1 500 Internal Server Error

The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from 
fulfilling the request.


On some servers (Amazon), when you get 500 errors you are instructed to try
the request again.  I don't know about this server.
