Duck typing to the rescue:  Here's a simple file object for writing:

class MyFunkyOutput(object):
     def write(self, sometext):
         print repr(sometext)
     def close(self):
         pass

outputter = MyFunkyOutput()
print >>outputter, 1,'a', 43
