Is there a best linux distro for a python hobbyist?

Hi,

I would have to put in a vote for Ubuntu.

There seems to be a working ubuntu package for most of the things that I
have tried. Instead of having to use a pythonic package - just get one from
the os.

As for the things you mention.. give it a go
