Shorter and quicker, yes, but provides much better functionality; it's NOT the
same result:
>>> line = ' aaa bbb ccc '
>>> import re
>>> re.split('\s', line)
['', '', '', 'aaa', '', '', 'bbb', '', '', 'ccc', '', '', '']

['aaa', 'bbb', 'ccc']
