In my WinXP (Athlon), 3.2 standard install
x=1.0
print(x)
for i in range(10000000):
x *= 0.8
x += 0.01
print(x)
takes about 3 1/2 secs with addition commented out and about 4 when
included as above, which is about what I would expect.
