I suggest testing your code at the interactive prompt, so something like.

 >>> from datetime import datetime
 >>> date = '21 02 2013'

Traceback (most recent call last):
   File "<stdin>", line 1, in <module>
TypeError: descriptor 'strftime' requires a '' object but 
received a 'str'
