For other systems, the values are:
System platform value
Linux 'linux'
Windows 'win32'
Windows/Cygwin 'cygwin'
Mac OS X 'darwin'

the above is missing a lot of devices.
i looked around for something more complete
and didn't come across anything more definitive
that looked to be up to date.
