[Python-mode] submitting code a line at a time

Dear Python-mode developers,

Is it currently possible to have some python code open in one buffer, have
the python interpreter open in another buffer, with the cursor in the code
buffer, and give some command to have the line on which the cursor
currently is submitted, with the cursor advancing one line and remaining
in the same buffer? This would be a lot more convenient than the cut and
paste I am currently doing.

This is the way the emacs statistical editing mode ESS behaves (at least
when used with R). The relevant command in that case is C-c C-n.
