Dear Naija Pythonistas,
It is with great delight I bring you good news that Python Nigeria has now
been registered by the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) with RC
Number : 96572
You can find the registration via public search on their portal
http://publicsearch.cac.gov.ng:8080/comsearch/test.php
Many of us that are familiar with how complicated this process can be,
especially dealing with the government authorities can attest and
understand the difficulties we have had. We decided to share with you some
of these challenges upon the successful registration. Many times CAC
rejected our community name suggestions like (Python Users Nigeria Group,
python Nigeria, and a host of many others) They even went ahead to reject
our first application after publishing in the newspaper because they
believed we wanted to start a community of Python(the actual snakes)
rearers, and even with our documentation on the communities aims and goals
it was a lot of back and forth issue. It took a lot of convincing thanks to
the consistent fight by our Chair person Chukwudi to explain to them via
our Lawyers that we are just as scared of snakes as they were and our
community wasn't about the actual Snake or some sort of cult. lol
Many of you when we started this process thankfully donated to pay for the
registrations and I just want to say without your help this would not have
been possible. This couldn't have come at a better time ; just in time as
PyConNG draws near. As a registered community we can now send invitation
letters to international attendees to facilitate the visa process and
official letters to organisations. *shines teeth*
I would personally like to thank collectively everyone who made this
possible, Friends and members of the community who donated funds, the
members of the Board for making this possible and especially Chuks for
being the front runner in this feat.
Signing out Shoki style :D .....
Aisha
On Behalf of the General Secretary.
